You weren’t there, but the steak was delicious, as is the service at the Lion’s Den 1837. It was cooked fast, to order, and served hot as my reservation was for 8:30 p.m. Lion’s Den 1837 a small spot in the middle of nowhere in Mineral, Virginia. You get bread on a flancy platter with three different kinds of butter, the middle one being the best. It has a sweet kind of taste. I always end up using it all and then switching over to the garlic butter on the right.

Lion’s Den 1837 runs like a pirate ship, I’m typically seated in the speakeasy in the basement, and there are people clonking up and down the stairs, which can be heard on the floorboards above your head, The building – see the name -dates from the early 1800’s. I get the tomahawk steak. It’s big. It’s delicious. My dogs always get the other half. This is a 30 oz cut of meat – I still don’t understand why I need to eat a pound of it, but I do. You can eat half of it and it’s still large enough to freeze and use as a weapon to club someone to death. The mashed potatoes taste like gold, a little sweet, a little savory. They run out in a series of bites and I can’t seem to control myself. I’ve never had them taste like this anywhere else if that means something.

The pieces of asparagus are small and petite, which I am not used to. It doesn’t have the rubbery feel to it that makes asparagus difficult to chew sometimes. It’s like baby asparagus, which paired well with my baby mixed greens and three Jack and Cokes.

You will impress whoever you take out there, they don’t play around. There is more professionalism in that establishment than all of the Museum District.
